About the Author

Hedwig Lewis is an educationist and writer and has served as a lecturer and principal. He received the Rev T. A. Mathias Award for Innovative College Teachers from All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE), New Delhi, in 1993. He has authored 30 books and his publications are on wide-ranging subjects that fall under several categories: spirituality, prayer, skill-building, biographies, inspirational, history, festive, and e-book. Some of his most noticeable works are At Home With God (1991), Happiness Manufacturers (2001), Mirrors of Life (1998), Once Upon A Time (2010), Fun With Words (1983), and Gujarat Jesuits Remembered (2002). Several of his books have been translated into Spanish and Lithuanian; some have been translated into different regional languages, including the previous edition of Body Language, which was translated into Malayalam. Peachtree for this Dummy

I have been a reluctant Peachtree user for the past 3 years mainly because I was introduced to the system as a user task by task as part of my increasing job duties rather than in a comprehensive way or through taking a user class. Consequently, I have had a difficult time figuring out what to do when problems arise or a new task is required. Then I got Peachtree for Dummies and my work-world changed. I'm able to accomplish tasks quicker, more efficiently and with an understanding of how the system integrates, one function effecting another. Using the book has also been invaluable in "problem solving" which has been a huge savings in time and energy. I had to refer to this book frequently over the past year as my bookkeeping tasks increased, and now that I'm more "up to speed" I still keep it handy and use it as needed. I bought a copy for our company headquarters which is located in another city and they're really pleased with the book as well.

There are better learning tools for Peachtree software out there, but all in all, I love the Dummies learning guides, from learning acoustic guitar to wine (A to W) haven't found a z item yet, that I'm interested in. But they do explain things in the simplest of ways. I do highly recommend that if you want to learn Peachtree accounting software, you go to school. That's the best hands on way. Otherwise this is a good guide line tool.

As an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist, I have successfully treated numerous people for mental/emotional concerns over the past 17 years. This very readable book raises the public's awareness of the wonderful possibilities Chinese medicine holds for mental/emotional healing.

Do I have patients and friends for whom pharmaceuticals work to help them cope with life better? Yes, and they are happy to take these medications for as long as they need. Are there others for whom pharmaceuticals have not worked and have even caused greater distress? Absolutely. For these people, there is hope in other arenas, and one of the aims of this book is raise awareness about that. What Chinese medicine can do is still so unknown to most people in our country, and I am deeply grateful for this book providing such useful and interesting information.

I really appreciated the author sharing his experiences, both from his life and from his practice. As a trained social worker, he has worked in the arena of mental/emotional issues for most of his life. He talks not only about fixing problems but also about balance, which is the foundation of Chinese medicine and lifestyle. If you are exploring options for treating mental/emotional problems, or are just curious about Chinese medicine, definitely check out this book.

This book shows that addressing emotional imbalances on a deep and holistic level can lead to amazing growth and life satisfaction. Electrons For Beginners

This is a real begginer book that starts as simply as how to pick up a screwdriver. You are expected to know nothing more than how to read. It is the most basic of basics, easy to read and follow through. Just what I needed.

Excellent beginner book...

My son (11) and I are new to electronics. This book has been a great introduction so far. We've only ready the first few chapters, but the fornat is consistant and helpful.

Each chapter ends with a simple quiz (answers in back of the book), which helps underscore important points thay were made.

The book also lists typical equipment that is necessary, and illustrations and photos are used to show proper usage. In addition, there are sections where the reader is asked to use a multimeter to check resistance, voltage level, and/or current, and there are illustrations of where you should place the test leads in the circuit when getting the values. I find that incredibly useful, since it helps remove guess work on my part.

About the Author

An international bestselling author, Manel Loureiro was born in Pontevedra, Spain, and studied law at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. I really wanted to love it

Manel Loureiro gives us Dark Days, book 2 in the Apocalypse Z series. Readers should note that this new release picks up where the first book leaves off. I wouldn't recommend skipping the first book or you may find yourself a little lost. It had been a good chunk of time since I read the first book, so I was grateful to find Loureiro gave readers a brief run through of what happened to get us to book two.

Dark Days begins in the air. Our group is trying to get to the Canary Islands in hopes the infection has not spread there. Our lawyer is joined by his cat Lucullus, seventeen year old girlfriend Lucia, Prit the pilot, and Sister Cecelia. Their foray into safety is short lived as Prit is accused of a crime he didn't commit. The accusation is used as leverage to force him once again back into the melee and zombie infested lands to fine medicine. Betrayed by those they trusted, the group must find their way back to each other and out of a corrupt society on the verge of a revolution.

Dammit, I really wanted to enjoy this one, and I did...at times. But there were so many things I took issue with. First and foremost, the relationship between the thirty year old narrator and seventeen year old Lucia doesn't work for me. Fundamentally, I just cant get behind it. So it makes reading the book quite uncomfortable.

The first novel was in journal form, but Dark Days does not follow suit. It is told using first person standard narration. This was an issue for me because it was one of the things I found successful in Loureiro's previous book. Also, the book seemed short, in length as well as character development. It felt to me as if the characters were drawn on a piece of paper as opposed to interweaved within the pages. Dark Days could have benefited from much more description and what I like to call the meat and potatoes. The author merely skims the surface of events and people. Unfortunately, when you do that, it doesn't allow readers to connect with a character.

When all is said and done, Dark days didn't bring anything new to the table. Been there, done that, and seen it done better. Apocalypse Z is to be a trilogy. Will I read the third book? Yes. But I'm hoping it is more on par with the first book and will redeem the series from the dent this one put in it.

Concrete Fever

The title, the cover, the illustrations, the story, and Nathaniel Kressen's staggering prose: It all comes together in Concrete Fever, a novel which perfectly captures the desperate exhilaration of love, a feeling we all experience differently yet still manage to find some truth in wherever we find it. It might be cliche to draw comparisons to Catcher in the Rye or certain corners of Last Exit to Brooklyn, but those aren't bad places to begin. Jumper and Gypsy are the main characters, but so too is New York City, a pulsating, living playground of grit and gristle. The romance of derelict rooftops and the curious feeling that a total stranger can suddenly become the most important person in your life are rendered vividly, emotionally and unflinchingly. Concrete Fever is a confident, assured and breathtaking novel.

A brilliant, bold, and emotional kick in the teeth

I'll preface by saying that Concrete Fever is not an easy book to read, and I mean that in the best possible way. This is a multi-generational tale of disillusionment and broken dreams, a crushing exploration of one young man's journey from cradle to, perhaps (but perhaps not), an early grave. Be prepared for a novel that may make you feel grief and sorrow, for the characters within these pages are so very real that you will rage and cry for them, feel their indignation, their fury, their despair.

Again, this is not an easy book to read. But if you are brave enough to press through these pages rife with turmoil, with Jumper's mourning, his bitterness, punctuated by his radiant glimmers of hope, you will be rewarded. This is a book that will make you feel, and that is a testament to the skill and raw talent of Nathaniel Kressen. That this is his first novel is simply incredible. I was utterly impressed with how often he took events in wholly unexpected directions, defying cliche, embodying the twists and turns of life in a heightened literary narrative style.

Concrete Fever is beautiful, stirring, sad, inspiring, and yet, at its core, full of hope that is of an intensity so great that most of us have never dared let it into our hearts. This is an author worth discovering now, worth watching blossom into an incredible literary voice of our generation. Get in on the ground floor. Read Concrete Fever.

A Salinger Ride Through a Lethem City

A very rewarding read, filled with strong characters, compelling writing and a unique storytelling style.

It took me a second to get into this book, as I didn't find the main character, Jumper, all that appetizing right off the bat - he's sarcastic, dark, brooding, and seems to want to tell you how life is rather than show you through his actions. But the more I read, the more those facts shone as a sign of the trueness written into the character - he's not some cool cynic or a cliched bad boy that a lot of young authors, I think, use to write their preferred version of themselves into their books. Jumper's a deeply flawed, but believable, protagonist who's story runs deep, and the more I accepted his faults and his fractured view as an entry into a skewed POV, the more I felt that I was getting to know a realistic, challenging and deep character - a very rewarding experience.

The ride the book takes you on has some elements that I've heard compared to Catcher in the Rye, and while that feeling is there for me, the adventure that spines the story reminds me a lot of Jonathan Lethem's city-based novels. The city itself is a hugely important character here - especially as we are still uncovering the "truth" behind the two protagonists, who talk spirals around their pasts rather than spell it out. I love the city represented here - with all of it's hints at actual NYC haunts and hoods, it exists as a playground for the secret stories and journeys the city night harbors. The characters' odyssey ranges from the gritty to the fantastic, and tethers itself to the lore and mythical aura of the city.

The flashes of background to Jumper's story are well executed - at first abrupt, but deeply engrossing. There are no easy answers in the story - if there are answers at all - but the way the story is told is just as important as the words displayed themselves. We learn a lot about Jumper and his mother in the way he explains things, even if he dances around his true feelings and certain events - explaining things that plainly would beat it over the head, I think, and make the story less appealing. It's the way it all slowly exposes itself, raw and nervy, that makes this book so compelling and deeply felt for me.
