"William Bonin: The True Story of The Freeway Killer," by Jack Rosewood is a brilliantly presented expos� on the life and times of one of this country's most diabolical and prolific killers. Not unlike Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgway (the Green River Killer), Dennis Rader (the BTK Killer—bind them, torture them, kill them), John Wayne Gacy (the Clown Killer), or more distantly William Bonnie (Billy the Kid), and William F. Harden who killed a man for snoring, this demon incarnate systematically sought out, sodomized, tortured, killed and then disposed of his twenty-one male victims as naturally as taking out a stick of gum. What Mr. Rosewood has done is gone a step further by delving into the inner workings of the serial killer's mind and upbringing—100% of serial killers were either abused, neglected or abandoned, and many do not operate alone. Where does this insatiable need to kill come from? What is their temperament like? Their sexual proclivities? What makes these deadly miscreants so similar and at times appear almost normal? Mr. Jack Rosewood takes into account all of this and more. Just like the men of which he writes, Mr. R takes and deftly spins his literary web trapping his readers no less effectively than the van used by William Bonin. I will have to read the rest of his series—even if only half as good. Well done Mister!

Gory, nasty, ugly, evil criminal conduct--that is what is detailed in this book, then the trial, and punishment of a monster.

This is a true crime book. It details the horrendous "career" of William Bonin and friends as serial killers. He was called The Freeway Killer among other epithets used by various people. Bonin was truly a monster, an evil man, and that comes home very clearly in the eerie, repetitive telling of the tales of each of his 21 killings (maybe more). This is not a novel, not a story to be taken lightly by the reader. It contains details of the crimes, how they were committed and what the results were of the conduct of Bonin and his accomplices. The stories are grim. They are deeply disturbing to any human being and certainly were to me. I have been a prosecutor of serious criminal cases and have tried murder cases. This one would have been easy to try but horrendous to present in its details to the jury.
This is a well written book with an easy to follow style and flow. I would not say it is easy to read. To the contrary. But it is not the style, the flow or the writer's abilities that makes the book difficult, it is the story itself. I give the book five stars as a true crime book. I think the manner in which the story was told was very well devised by the writer. For you grammar Nazis there are a few mistakes of editing but nothing that detracts from the story itself.
In sum though I found the reading of the story difficult I did enjoy the book and recommend it to anyone above the age of say eighteen. And I think the advice given to hitchhikers is very well taken.

A really shocking book on William Bonin, one of the so-called "Freeway Killer"s that roamed the highways in California, killing young men and boys.. He's surely one of the more prolific ones of that time, confessing to killing at least 21 victims, and it may be even more. He's also one of the guys who killed with different partners at times. Really twisted and creepy.,

Real, practical advice that will improve your life

*Disclosure: I'm a friend of Hannah's and designed the cover of this book. But I wouldn't be writing this review if I didn't think its content was true.*

A lot of books in the self help category are chocked full of mysticism and guru-speak. You know the stuff: "Toltec shaman Daniel Sujarit will teach you how transcendental meditation and Ayurveda yoga positions can free your consciousness from lure of the ever-expanding ego so you can awaken and transform into an enlightened member of the quantum Earth."

Uh... what?

Well this book is the opposite of that. Hannah is a regular person. She's not handing down enlightenment like some new-age guru. She's talking about practical, day-to-day strategies that will help you take better care of yourself, that will help you avoid unsustainable short-term comforts in favor of developing genuine self-care habits.

Hannah, while drawing from her own experiences, suggests steps you can take to identify your coping strategies and replace them with actions that truly satisfy your needs. And she does it without self-righteousness, without sounding like a guru, and without pushing esoteric spiritual gibberish.

Want better relationships? Want to feel happier and more self-confident? Want to stop cycles of procrastination? How about less self-destructive activities? This book will help you do it, step by step, with tons of practical examples and suggestions.

This little book has saved me a ton of time and will probably help me add years to my life. It's like she went through the self help section and said, "here, just read this". I went from fairly ignorant of the self-care process to confident in the fundamentals of self care in a matter of hours.

In the past, in regards to self care, I've made comments like, "yeah great, I cant' nap at 10AM, or live off juice, or afford the spa, I work". This book directly addresses this outlook, and others, while providing such clear guidelines that I was able to implement a small but useful change the same day I read it. No chanting in this book? You mean I could just take 5 and acknowledge something I appreciate? Well, I guess I could. Sounds...practical.

As I read the book It seemed like someone put a bunch of useful stuff all in one place. I enjoyed the fact that the author seems like someone anyone would know. That honest person who says, "yeah, I struggled, failed, and here's how I dealt with it". Nothing over the top just real. This book doesn't teach that self care is easy, it reassures that it is possible, for everyone.

Thanks again to the author, although some part of me still wants to indulge a guru. Maybe spend more time with people in robes? Peace.

Meet your needs as you move from coping to thriving

I thoroughly enjoyed this thoughtful book.

We are conditioned to sacrifice our needs to others but how can we help if we are not taking care of ourselves? We have internalized our parents and much of our behavior results from their voices. Parts of us split off and stay in a childlike state. But we need to make our own reality and meet our own needs and that is where self care comes in. We need to escape our conditioning, feel our emotions and negotiate.

Self care is our choice. It starts with accepting yourself. Focus on the actions and then empathize. "Guilt = I did something bad. Shame = I am bad." And watch the people around you. Are they meeting your needs? Find your True Believers. Those who recognize your potential. Are you meeting your needs? This comes first. HALT are you hungry, angry, lonely or tired? Take care of yourself first. What can you do to relax and have fun? There are many suggestions in the book. I encourage you to read this and incorporate it into your life. There are many resources referenced in the book as well. Meditate, yoga, journal, sleep, and schedule to meet your needs as you move from coping to thriving.

If you have been on what seems to be a never ending journey in search of peace, you have found your answer. This book is a roadmap to success if you are serious about having peace in your life. Joyce has a way of being so frank and forthright that it is impossible to miss the message she conveys. Her willingness to allow us into "her world" of frustration and exhaustion in her quest for peace is what makes the things she says so believeable. It's comforting to know that someone has struggled through the same areas in life and has perservered and found victory! It's easy to tell someone what to do if you haven't walked in their shoes. It seems that Joyce has been in a lot of peoples shoes and she can speak from experience while giving biblical counsel. That's always easier for someone to accept. God is using her in mighty ways to bring about healing for millions of people. Let her help you too.

Good books from Amazon at affordable price

Excellent book for anyone trying to get along with others and finding a problem. Some people have a way of 'pushing your button' or know what and how to say it so that if you have a temper there is conflict. One of the best things about it is there is Biblical truths that if obeyed there will be no conflict. I highly recommend it for families with young people that are rebellious. I was having trouble with a young mother in my church and we often had issues that separated us. I love this young lady a lot and wanted us to be friends. This book was recommended by a lady who had similiar issues. I got two of them and kept one and read it and gave her one. Today we are trying to help others that have this same problem. I ordered this from Amazon as I bought used like new copies. I have ordered many more similiar books and both my friend and I are growing in our relationship with God.
